1. If a child who understands Hajj cannot walk and is carried during tawaf and sa‘i, how many tawafs and sa‘is are needed for the child and the carrier?

  • One tawaf and one sa‘i are sufficient for both if each has the proper intention. (correct answer)
  • Two tawafs and two sa‘is are always required.
  • The child’s Hajj is invalid until he can walk.
  • The child must repeat that Hajj after becoming older for this tawaf to count as voluntary Hajj.

Why

A child’s Hajj is valid as a voluntary Hajj, although it does not replace the obligatory Hajj after reaching adulthood. If the child can walk, he should do tawaf and sa‘i himself. If he cannot walk but has reached an age of understanding, both the child and the person carrying him should intend on their own behalf, and one tawaf and one sa‘i are sufficient for both. If the child is too young to understand, the guardian makes the intention on his behalf and one tawaf and sa‘i still suffice for both according to the correct view cited.

2. When is it permissible to appoint a proxy for tawaf or sa‘i?

  • When the person has a chronic incapacity with no hope of recovery and cannot be carried. (correct answer)
  • Whenever the person finds crowds difficult.
  • When the person has a temporary illness that may improve with rest or medicine.
  • When the person can pay someone to carry him in a wheelchair.

Why

The basic rule is that a Muslim must perform physical acts of worship himself when able. It is not valid to appoint a proxy for tawaf or sa‘i if the person can do them, may recover later, or can be carried by someone or taken in a wheelchair. A proxy is only allowed when the person is completely unable, has a chronic illness or impediment with no hope of recovery, and cannot complete the ritual even by being carried without extraordinary difficulty. If the incapacity was temporary, the person must return and complete the ritual himself, even later.

3. Besides as-Safa and al-Marwah, where did the Prophet ﷺ make du‘a during Hajj?

  • At al-Mash‘ar al-Haram. (correct answer)
  • After stoning Jamrat al-‘Aqabah.
  • Inside every tent at Mina.
  • Only during tawaf.

Why

The source lists several places and times when the Prophet ﷺ made du‘a during Hajj and ‘umrah. These include as-Safa, al-Marwah, al-Mash‘ar al-Haram, the Day of ‘Arafah, and after stoning the smallest and middle Jamarat. At al-Mash‘ar al-Haram, he faced the qiblah, made du‘a, magnified Allah, proclaimed His Oneness, and remained standing until it became very light. After stoning Jamrat al-‘Aqabah, however, he did not stand for du‘a there.

4. What does ‘awrah mean in the context of prayer?

  • The parts of the body that must be covered for the prayer to be valid. (correct answer)
  • The time period in which the prayer must be offered.
  • The direction faced during prayer.
  • The intention formed before prayer.

Why

Covering the ‘awrah is one of the conditions of prayer being valid. If a person prays with the ‘awrah uncovered when able to cover it, the prayer is not valid. The source explains categories of ‘awrah for prayer: a young boy’s minimum ‘awrah, the moderate ‘awrah from the navel to the knee for those ten and above, and the adult free woman’s ‘awrah, which is all of her body in prayer except the face and hands, with scholarly disagreement about the feet. Other conditions of valid prayer include purity, prayer time, facing the qiblah, and intention.
