1. What should guide a Muslim’s choice of specialization?
- Aptitude, interest, permissibility, and benefit to the ummah. (correct answer)
- Financial gain alone.
- Whatever is popular in society, even if harmful.
- A field one dislikes and has no ability for.
Why
A Muslim should choose a field for which he has aptitude and inclination, so long as it is permissible and beneficial. Islam values both religious and beneficial worldly knowledge, and the Muslim ummah needs specialists in many permissible fields, including medicine, engineering, sciences, industry, and other skills. A person should not be forced into a field for which he has no ability or interest, because that may prevent him from succeeding in what Allah has made suitable for him.
